Host a international student…Change the world!

Oakland Schools has recently created the NextGen Entrepreneurship Program in partnership with the Oakland Country business community through the Oakland Country Government Office of Economic Development. This international exchange student program is designed to prepare Oakland Country students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to live and compete in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected, and fast-changing global society through meaningful interaction with students from other countries and cultures.

We hope that your family will decide to “Go Global” by sharing your lives with a student from
abroad. We are looking for a variety of host families-from those of you with children at home to retirees and empty nesters. Hosting is about sharing your version of the American lifestyle with a teen from abroad. As a host family, you’ll be asked to give your student a caring, supportive and warm family life while he/she attends school, so far from home. International students pay a program fee and the host families will receive a stipend of $400/month to cover room and board. To find out more about the NextGen host family program for the 2009-2010 school year, please visit http://nextgen.oakland.k12.mi.us.
